IPM (Integrated Pest Management)
Targeted Treatment Programs
Often a property will have only a few key plants that the owner is concerned about or that are highly susceptible to pests, diseases, etc. A few examples are: Hemlocks (scale, adelgids, mites), Crabapples (rust, scab), Dogwood (anthracnose, powdery mildew) and Birch (borer, leaf miner)In this case we can prescribe a treatment program to address just the area of concern, typically 2-4 treatments specifically timed for the best control of the problem.

Spotted Lantern Fly
The SLF excretes honeydew (a sugary substance) as it feeds, that can build up and promote the growth of sooty mold (fungi), which can cover and injure plants and forest understories, as well as get on patio furniture, cars, and anything else found below the lanternfly’s feeding area. Farmside can help! We recommend to remove 90% of the Ailanthus trees on your property and leave one or two “trap trees” that allows us to treat a limited area with minimal impacts to the environment, and kill the SLF that feed on the trap trees.
If you do not have Ailanthus trees on your property and still have issues with SLF we can treat the primary hosts of the insect. If you have an abundant number of insects we may recommend a control application. SLF are hoppers and flyers so while we treat your house they may fly from other areas around your house.
Spongey Moth (Gypsy Moth)
Spongey Moth, previously known as “Gypsy Moth” Caterpillars can defoliate trees quickly–in as short a period of 4-6 weeks. Defoliation is a great stressor on trees, increasing their vulnerability to other diseases and problems that can potentially lead to their decline and eventual removal. This can incur considerable cost to homeowners, and impact the overall aesthetic of the landscape.” Our Plant Health Care specialists will evaluate the population of the moth on your property and create a plan to stop their damage to your valued landscape.
