Yellow-Based Analogous Garden Color Schemes

Miscanthus Maiden Grass Morning Light - Farmside Landscape & Design

An analogous garden color scheme for the garden includes 3 colors that are adjacent to each other on the color wheel. While that can include colors that are similar, such as yellow, yellow-orange and orange, it can also include hues with a bit more visible color variety such a yellow, yellow-green and green. The key is that there is usually a single base color that runs throughout all three adjacent hues (in both cases mentioned here, yellow is the base color). The result is a look that is cohesive like a monochromatic palette, but with a bit more energy and color variety. We start our analogous color scheme series with yellow-based plantings that range from peach to chartreuse:

Yellow-Based Analogous Color Scheme Option #1

  • Yellow – Baptisia “Lemon Meringue”

  • Green – Parsley Fern

Yellow-Based Analogous Color Scheme Option #2

  • Yellow-Green – Lady’s Mantle
  • Green – Miscanthus Maiden Grass “Morning Light”
