Fleet Mechanic

Farmside’s fleet mechanic is responsible for maintaining equipment operation by completing inspections and preventive maintenance requirements; correcting equipment/vehicle/small tool deficiencies; making adjustments and alignments; keeping records. Must be experienced in truck maintenance, 2 cycle equipment and mowers.


Key Responsibilities & Performance Deliverables:

  • Keeps equipment available for use by inspecting and testing vehicles; completing preventive maintenance such as, engine tune-ups, oil changes, tire rotation and changes, wheel balancing, replacing filters.
  • Maintains vehicles & equipment & trailers functional condition by listening to operator complaints; conducting inspections; repairing engine failures; repairing mechanical and electrical systems malfunctions; replacing parts and components; repairing body damage.
  • Maintains Registration and Inspection records keeping all on schedule for renewals
  • Verifies vehicle serviceability by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.
  • Schedules and assures compliance with state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
  • Maintains vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting.
  • Maintains vehicle records by recording service and repairs.
    • Check Equipment for damage, record hours used, mileage & fuel levels
  • Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
  • Perform bumping, painting, heating, drilling, bolting, welding (MIG, Stick, TIG), brazing, sand blasting, soldering, or cutting operations.
  • Contains costs by using warranty; evaluating service and parts options.
  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock, coordinate part(s) runs; placing orders; verifying receipt.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
  • Accomplishes maintenance and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
  • Perform road service on equipment as required
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading technical and regulation publications.
  • Investigate complaints and equipment malfunctions
  • Show respect and courtesy
  • Actively participate in team meetings.
  • Recommend improved work methods and procedures, assist in training employees
  • Complete all duties safely with no accidents.
  • Report any accidents and/or near misses as per Farmside Safety Policy.
    • Coaches through problems or accidents to prevent re-occurrence
  • Perform other types of work during in and off-peak seasons, i.e. snow events, trucking, delivery etc.
  • Maintain a clean, neat and organized shop.
  • Grow your skills and knowledge of the company and the industry.
  • Ensure achievement of Mission Statement standards.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • High school graduate or GED required.
  • Technical school training preferred.
  • Must have own tools
